Outside Vancouver

Whistler

Only an hour and a half by car from Vancouver, be sure to spend a day or more in this mountain playground, home of the Alpine Skiing, Bobsled, and Luge events during the 2010 Winter Olympics. Go for leisurely walks in alpine meadows, golf on world class courses, or ride the Peak-to-Peak gondola 1 kilometre above the valley floor as you soar from Whistler Mountain to Blackcomb Mountain.

Victoria

Take a ferry across the Georgia Strait to Vancouver Island and get lost in the charm and beauty of British Columbia's capital city. A little bit of England on the west coast of Canada, enjoy afternoon tea in the historical Empress Hotel, walk the historic harbour front, visit the parliament buildings, or ride a double decker bus on one of many city tours. Top off your visit to Victoria with a whale watching cruise or a tour of the world renowned Buchart Gardens.

Pre/Post Congress Alaska Cruises

Cruise ships depart from Vancouver's harbour as part of the Vancouver-Alaska route, the third most popular cruise in the world. Seven to fourteen day Alaska cruises offer some of the world's most spectacular scenery. Cruise through the inside Passage and visit Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, Glacier Bay, College Fjord, the Kenai Peninsula, Anchorage, Yakutat Bay, Seward, Sitka, or Valdez.  You can contact Uniglobe Vision Travel for more information or help with arranging your cruise.  See Pre and Post Cruise Options

Annual Coho Festival

Get a feel for the natural charms of British Columbia by taking part in the Annual Coho Festival, a fun event celebrating salmon, taking place on Sunday September 12th, 2010. Started in 1980 as a local initiative by West Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, this event has become a major environmental happening on the North Shore. You can stretch your legs after your journey to Vancouver by doing the Coho Walk through the beautiful Capilano River Regional Park or simply enjoy the events in the park by the beach in West Vancouver.

On the walk, leaving from Cleveland Dam close to the foot of Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver, you will follow the journey of salmon from hatchery to ocean on a self-guided tour along the Capilano River down to the beach in West Vancouver. You can enjoy performers and discovery stations along the 4.5-kilometre walk from Cleveland Dam to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, or hike the entire 8.5-kilometre trail to Ambleside Park and the annual Coho Festival. Sturdy footwear is recommended!

The cost for the walk is $3/person (cash only), and it is free for children under 6. There are free buses from Park Royal Shopping Centre South Mall to Cleveland Dam that run 9:30 am to 2 pm. The last bus back to Park Royal leaves from the Capilano Suspension Bridge at 2:45 pm. We suggest you start your walk no later than 12 noon to catch the last bus.
